30/05/2024 - May and June are the months of fireflies! And we bring you a list of several places to see this, one of nature's greatest spectacles, as a sign of the start of summer.
The Tapada de Mafra, Parques of Sintra, and Monsanto Forest Park usually announce at least one date each year as the ideal time to catch a glimpse of this summer magic, the fireflies!
The Gaia Biological Park, which has been pesticide-free for decades and has no artificial lighting along the route, has one of the most numerous and well-preserved populations of Luciola lusitanica, which is why it hosts the "Nights of the Fireflies" every year in June.
The nature walks companies have many dates already announced (and some are already sold out).
Every weekend in May and even on some days during the week, you can find a night walk to observe the fireflies' mating lights and enjoy the beauty of this light show.
