21-01-2021 The 1st edition of the Portuguese Innovation Leaders Award, created by the Consumer Guidance Institute Portugal (CGIP), counts with the University of Coimbra in the TOP 3 in the Universities category. 

The analysis that gives rise to the Award focuses on patent applications and registration and the level of innovation in Portugal between 2017 and 2019. The UC (University of Coimbra) was also awarded the Top 5 - IPC (Coimbra Polytechnic Institute) Class A (Human Needs) and the Top 20 - IPC (Coimbra Polytechnic Institute) Class G (Physics). 

The aim of the award is to highlight and reward the main Portuguese organisations, in an analysis that included 550 organisations. 

Already in 2019, the University of Coimbra was the national leader in the number of patents and spin-offs registered, adding an annual average of 50 patent registrations in recent years.
