01-04-2021- The University of Coimbra is distinguished as one of the best in the world in the 2021 edition of the international QS World University Ranking by subject that evaluates institutions around the world for academic reputation, reputation among employers and citations by scientific publications. 

In the five major areas of knowledge evaluated - Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences & Management - the University of Coimbra once again qualifies in the top 500 of all areas, with the Engineering & Technology area being the one in which the institution obtained a better classification. 

The QS World University Ranking By subject also analyses the performance of institutions in 51 areas of study and the University of Coimbra reached the top 500 in 30 of these areas. In this 2021 edition, the University of Coimbra, in comparison to the previous edition, improved its position in the study areas of Agriculture and Forestry, Business and Management Studies, Education and Sociology. 

At a national level, the University of Coimbra was the best institution in the areas of Archaeology and Psychology. 

These results demonstrate, once again, the good performance of the University of Coimbra at a global level.
