22/08/2024 – Coimbra B Metrobus station ‘wins’ artwork by Paul de Gobert

The future Coimbra Terminal Station of the Mondego Mobility System will receive a work of art by artist Paul de Gobert. It's a set of wooden panels approximately 100 metres long.

Created in 1975/76, during the construction of a new headquarters building for the Belgian bank ‘Crédit Communal’ in Brussels, the work was the result of artistic and urban concerns on the part of the promoters of the contract, which led them to commission the painting of the palisades to protect and minimise the visual impact of the construction site, said MM.

Protected since the end of the contract, and after restoration in 2005, some of the palisades have been part of various exhibitions, particularly in Brussels.

The artist is now in Coimbra to carry out a study of where the work will be placed, which will allow him to draw up the project to install the panels, as well as to visit the former Coimbra Urban Transport Museum, where the panels will be restored.

According to MM, the visit will be accompanied by the chairman of the board of directors of Águas de Coimbra, Alfeu Sá Marques, who has provided the space for this purpose.

At MM's request, CEARTE - the Professional Training Centre for Handicrafts and Heritage - will support Paul de Gobert in restoring the work.
