27.06.19 This year the GPI report considers our country as the third most peaceful in the world. In the last 5 years, Portugal has been adopting new measures to achieve greater peace of mind.
According to the annual report of the Global Peace Index, New Zealand, Iceland and Portugal are the top three countries in the world this year as being the most attractive countries to live in terms of security and passivity.
In general, of the 36 European countries, only 22, according to GPI 2019, showed improvements in relation to the previous year. Europe remains the most peaceful region in the world
At the bottom of the list are the Middle Eastern countries, Iraq (159), Yemen, South Sudan, Syria and Afghanistan (163). Since the beginning of the index, 2019 has been the first year that Yemen has been ranked as one of the five least peaceful countries.
Each country's average score improved by 0.09%, with 86 countries improving and 76 worsenings. The GPI also noted that the average level of overall peace improved slightly, for the first time in five years.
The 2019 GPI also revealed that despite some tension between nations, the last 10 years have seen a marked decrease in conflicts and crises.
