13.6.19-Portugal was awarded the Best European Tourist Destination for the 3rd consecutive year on Saturday night in Madeira at the 26th edition of the World Travel Awards.
Having Portugal in the passport as a destination is increasingly the desire of international tourists! Portugal won for the 3rd consecutive year the international recognition in the tourism industry, receiving the title of the Best European Tourist Destination. A total of 39 awards were won in the 26th edition of the World Travel Awards, three more than in 2018.
The Tourism of Portugal was ranked Best Official Tourism Body for the strategies it implemented.
Lisbon received once again the award for Best City Break Destination, Best Cruise Port and Best European Destination.
Madeira was elected the Best Island Destination for the second consecutive year, while Passadiços do Paiva won the prize for Best Tourism Development Project and Dark Sky Alqueva received the European Responsible Tourism Award.
The Algarve region was awarded as the best "Beach Destination" leader in Europe.
In addition to Portugal the nominated countries were Austria, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
