04/07/2024 - The Festivities of the City of Coimbra and Queen Santa Isabel begin today
Today, 04th July, is the date on which Coimbra City Day is celebrated.
As usual, the city will be celebrating for 10 days, with an event whose programme includes 177 initiatives, in a concept that aims to honour the city and its inhabitants, celebrating emblematic and heritage spaces, artistic, cultural and sporting projects.
The Festivities of the City of Coimbra and Queen Santa Isabel 2024 take place between 4 and 14 July, in various venues throughout the city, and feature an eclectic and wide-ranging programme, capable of attracting people of all ages, cultures and tastes.
This year sees a new format, with the motto of celebrating and honouring Coimbra, and the great novelty this year is the diversification and distribution of stages across new venues in the city. The epicentre of the event is no longer the Jardim da Sereia, but this year the stages of the Parque Verde do Mondego (right bank), the Feira Popular and the Sé Nova.
With four stages, nine concerts, multiple cultural and sporting events, a street music festival, a serenade, two firework displays and two religious processions, among many others, these are some of the many proposals on this year's programme, not leaving out the firework displays, which take place over the Mondego River on 04th July (00h00) and 11th July (22h30).
Tiago Bettencourt and the Orquestra Clássica do Centro, Dino D'Santiago, Kátia Guerreiro and D.A.M.A, Quatro e Meia, are some of the big names in Portuguese national music that you won't want to miss!
All the concerts start at 9.30pm (with the exception of the Old Students' Serenade) and are free to attend, in a bid to democratise culture and give everyone access to music.
